Seamless Steel Tube Library: Chemical Composition and Mechanical Properties of German Standard 16MnCr5 Seamless Steel Tube
The German standard 16MnCr5 (material number 1.7131) is a carburized gear steel that follows the standard DIN EN 10084, with a fixed chemical composition; The mechanical properties are not fixed values and highly depend on the heat treatment state (such as carburizing, quenching, normalizing, or annealing). The shape of seamless steel pipes needs to be accepted according to the material standards of bars/forgings, and there is no independent "steel pipe specific" mechanical index. ‌‌
Chemical composition (mass fraction%)
According to DIN EN 10084:2008 and EN 10263-3 standards:
‌C‌: 0.14~0.19
‌Si‌: ≤0.40
‌Mn‌: 1.00~1.30
‌Cr‌: 0.80~1.10
‌P‌: ≤0.025
‌S‌: ≤0.035
Cu: ≤ 0.25 (residual elements)
Mechanical properties (differentiated by delivery/heat treatment status)
The mechanical data of 16MnCr5 varies greatly with the process, and the common states are as follows:
Softening annealing (+A): hardness ≤ 207 HBW; The tensile strength is approximately 500-600 MPa (estimated value, standard mainly controls hardness).
Normalization (+N): Hardness 138-187 HBW; The tensile strength is about 600-750 MPa.
Carburizing quenching+low-temperature tempering (final use state): surface hardness ≥ 58 HRC (approximately 700+HB); The tensile strength of the heart is 880-1180 MPa, the yield strength is ≥ 590 MPa, the elongation is ≥ 9%, and the impact toughness is good.
Standard upper limit: The hardness in the delivery state is usually required to be ≤ 297 HBW (before heat treatment or specific treatment)
