Chemical composition (mass fraction%)
SS400 has no strict upper limit on carbon, silicon, and manganese content, only limiting harmful elements, with significant fluctuations in composition:
Carbon (C): ≤ 0.30% (thickness ≤ 40mm), belonging to the category of low carbon steel.
Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.35%.
Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.60%.
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.050% (strictly controlled to prevent cold brittleness).
Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.050% (strictly controlled to prevent thermal brittleness).
*Note: Compared with the national standard Q235, SS400 only imposes mandatory limits on P and S content, with a wider range of C, Si, and Mn, emphasizing economy and practicality. *‌‌
mechanical properties
The performance decreases with the increase of material thickness, the tensile strength remains constant, and the yield strength is layered:
Tensile strength: 400~510 MPa (all thickness segments are consistent, "400" represents the lowest tensile strength).
Yield strength:
Thickness ≤ 16mm: ≥ 245 MPa.
16mm<thickness ≤ 40mm: ≥ 235 MPa.
Thickness>40mm: ≥ 215 MPa.
Elongation rate: ≥ 26% (ensuring good plasticity).
Impact energy: Usually ≥ 27J at room temperature (depending on the delivery agreement)
